It's no surprise that Democrats had nothing good to say about President Bush in Manchester Thursday night. The New Hampshire Democratic Party held its "100 Club" dinner at the center of New Hampshire. Richard, Edith, Kevin, you were all there - but not all of the candidates were.

tape 1 01:22:15 And now the Republicans want to gut the best schools program, they want to turn back the clock on school funding, and they want to increase local property taxes. We can't let them do that.
tape 1 07:28:08 And a gay-basher has been nominated to the human rights commission. We can't let them do that. It's time to stand up and fight.
tape 3 08:10:59 NO WAR! Folks, I said it earlier and I'll say it again. I respect your position. Let's disagree respectfully and let me finish my remarks.

Governor Craig Benson is standing behind his choice for chair of the NH Human Rights Commission. The Governor has been criticized for his nomination of former state representative Gary Daniels. While in the legislature, Daniels was a vocal opponent of a civil rights bill and made anti-gay remarks. Kevin, Daniels said homosexuality is unnatural, immoral and unhealthy - but he said quite a bit more.

Soon we'll know more about how the Diocese of Manchester dealt with allegations of sexual abuse by minors. On Monday the New Hampshire Attorney General's office will release documents relating to the the investigation. Earlier this week Bishop McCormack told a gathering of priest and lay church leaders that he has no plans to resign.

Flags were at half staff today around New Hampshire. Governor Benson and the Speaker of the House, Gene Chandler, issued the order to honor U.S. Army Specialist William Tracy of Weare New Hampshire. Tracy died earlier this week in a helicopter crash in Kuwait. Flags will fly at half-staff through Tuesday.

Finally, there was a special presentation at the Christa McAuliffe planetarium this week that touched on a lot of recent events.
The New Hampshire Army National Guard presented the planetarium with three patches that Christa McAuliffe had taken with her on the space shuttle challenger. The patches were in a flight kit that was recovered after the Challenger exploded. The patches will now be on permanent display at the planetarium, which has seen an increase in visitors following the loss of the space shuttle Columbia.

Planetarium tape 01;05:00 In my profession, the military, we are known for giving respect and recognizing our heroes. My definition of a hero is one who gives of themselves for the greater good in the face of risk at their own peril. Teacher Christa McAuliffe demonstrated this for her profession and for all the world to see. The NH National Guard is pleased to present these so that you will display our patches which were flown aboard the Challenger. May they be a reminder and remembrance of NH's heroine.
